Steel Museum

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Spring 2006

The Steel Museum project began with the analysis of Maison Cook and the Hermann Lange House. It started as a residential analysis which was then applied to a steel museum competition when our professor decided to shift gears. Although this seems unorthodox, the end result was very interesting.

The "Strip" or analysis consists of tracings of the floor plans of each house. Collage was incorporated to add depth and dimension to the strip.

Once the strip was complete the process of artificial excavation began and the strip was applied to the site. This process, along with extruding portions of the analysis using Form-Z modeling software, led to the design of the museum and site.
